An alto with the Seattle Women’s Chorus wrote me recently to invite me to their upcoming Vixen Fiction concert, featuring among other things, lyrics taken from Ann Bannon’s Beebo Brinker Chronicles.

At the premiere of the program, April 12-13, Ann Bannon will be present and making comments on the pieces. A salute to the lesbian fiction pulp novels of the 50s and 60s, it promises to be a one-of-a-kind. It will be repeated again at the GALA quadrennial conference in Miami in July.

Women, including the lesbian contingent the reader assures me earns and deserves the designation “bad girls,” gathering together to celebrate our history in song – it gives me the tingles. I wish I could be in Seattle or Miami to hear it. If that’s where you are, don’t miss it!

  1. Ann Bannon fans might be excited to know about the professional Off-Broadway production of BEEBO BRINKER CHRONICLES that is opening this week in New York City. It’s moved from the smaller theatre where it played in the fall, and Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner have come on board as producers. Ms. Bannon is making a number of personal appearances in connection with the show March 2-5 and will be doing radio/TV interviews. Visit http://www.beebobrinker.com for more info.
