Note: In Spring 2026, GCLS paused the Writing Academy program to allow for upgrades and changes to the teaching model and program structure with the goal of creating a sustainable, consistent experience with long-term and wider reach. The updated Writing Academy is slated to launch sometime in 2027.

Original Post:
With a few rare exceptions, writers do not spring from fully formed from the forehead of Jane Austen. It takes work, practice, fortitude and SO MUCH LUCK.

The Golden Crown Literary Society opened the Writing Academy for writers who want to improve their craft. The Academy focuses on writing for and about lesbians. Practical aspects of the writing life are also explored.

Scholarships, funded by GCLS members and donors, may be available.

From the GCLS site:

The GCLS Writing Academy is a year long intensive program for new or relatively new writers who have at least part of a novel written and who want to learn the critical components of quality writing, plus various related topics such as researching your novel, the writer’s life, and the path to getting published.
